We are different than kickboxing, MMA, Taekwondo, Aikido, and other styles of martial arts, with a more traditional practice focusing on developing the mind, spirit, and body together. We are an affiliate club of SKA (Shotokan Karate of America) founded by Tsutomu Ohshima, a direct student of Master Funakoshi.  Our dojo leader Joel Heller received both his first and second degree black belt rankings directly from Sensei Ohshima.  Instructor Oded Schor, also a highly seasoned Nidan (2nd degree black belt) trained in Israel Shotokan which is also directly connected to Sensei Ohshima.  Our traditional style of  Shotokan Karate has five levels of black belt, so that 2nd degree in our style is equivalent of about a 4th degree level in a ten dan system of black belt rank.  Yodan Dave Gabai from Princeton, NJ has been leading some of our practices at the Philadelphia Shotokan Karate Dojo.
